Meeting refused to discuss car park overloading fear

by Alan Dean on 17 March, 2013

Fears remain about the ability of Stansted’s Lower Street car park to cope in future years. Representations from Stansted Mountfitchet Parish Council and district councillors Iris Evans and me will be published on Monday in the agenda pack for Uttlesford’s cabinet meeting on March 26th.

Iris’s and my representation can be read at this link.

Concern has existed since the middle of last year about the unwillingness of the district council to talk openly about arrangements for the developer to use the council’s car park for his commercial project – including a much needed health centre. The latest refusal by officers to meet with district and parish elected councillors is a worrying development for local democracy. The standoff has been reported to environment cabinet member Cllr Susan Barker.

I can’t believe they are still burying their heads in the sand. Ever since they so obviously passed the development without referring to the PCs car park surveys very clear condemnation of its ability to cope with the extra pressure of traffic it will take. I have been wondering how long it would be before we hit a reply to the letters you submitted on our behalf after the October meeting. The decision having been made in private before the public meeting. UDCs planning committee reeks of corruption! And going back to something I had been told even before the first meeting , that Bampton would get the development he and Hilton wanted if they included the Health centre, by (my mind has gone blank in fury) bother! Anyway. What now?!

The sensible solution would be for a multi storey car park to be built. Why should progress be stifled by Nimbyism?
