The developers of the proposed central site in Stansted for a new health centre and doctors’ surgery are holding an exhibition on January 27th from 11a.m. until 8 p.m. See this press coverage.

The site is at the junction of Lower Street, Church Road, Station Road and Chapel Hill plus the access road to the public car park. A central site would be great if it can be made to work. I remain to be convinced that the traffic implications at such a complicated junction can be sorted out. Whilst the private developers seems confident that the health element can go ahead independently from the retail and housing parts of what would be a complex commercial deal, I remain to be unconvinced by the NHS that they are not biting off more than they can chew.

I hope my fears are unfounded! My surveying of local opinion shows people evenly divided between wanting a central site and the alternative on Foresthall Park; most people, including elderly people, would be content with a 20thC facility and service in any location.
