First week in Waveney

by Alan Dean on 16 April, 2010

The Sky interview last week went well; live after Lord Mandelson with each of the three main candidates by Lowestoft pier sitting in front of party-coloured ice creams! Good discussion about the local economy and the opportunities for new, green jobs in work like off-shore green electricity.

Interviewed by Anglia ITV about the bascule bridge  congestion point and the need for a third river crossing – under discussion but devoid of action since the 1930s! Tories have excelled at repeatedly cancelling this project.

Local media (at least Eastern Daily Press) seems to think the Waveney Lib Dem campaign is quiet compared with Labour’s and the Conservatives’. But last night the election campaign really came to life with the party leaders’ tv debate……and Nick Clegg excelled; praised on the doorstep today. Polls rated Nick’s performance over 60% compared with runner up Cameron on just over 20%. Tonight’s voting intention poll in The Sun has the Lib Dems in second place only 2% behind the Tories!

This election has just got exciting and all bets are off; even in Waveney!

    Hello Alan
I am a voter in Waveney.I have voted Liberal in the past but, since living in Lowestoft, have voted Labour to make sure that the Conservative doesn’t get in.
As a Middle School teacher, I deplore the actions of the Tory council whose decision to close middle schools in 2011 will have a devastating effect on education here.
Can you tell me anything that will encourage me to vote for you rather than Bob Blizzard? I say this particularly because I have, as yet received no information from the Liberal Democrat leafletting!

    Regards,
    Christine

    Dear Christine

I hope you received my email to you explaining that the Lib Dems are dead against these plans and that we focus our priorities on individual children’s education and avoid wasting money on unnecessary reorganisations. I know how disruptive this change is becoming.

    Regards
    Alan
