Today’s Saffron Walden Reporter sums up the contradiction at Uttlesford District Council on their priorities: tax the poor and help the rich.
On a morning when I have had to help out a person who has been unable to afford electricity and food for several weeks, so when given food was unable to cook it, I urge the reading of page readers of my blog to read this: SW Reporter 060314 page 10 Shame of LCTS

One should remember that nationally the Liberal Democrats fully supported and voted for the localisation of Council Tax Support. So these cuts have been imposed on Uttlesford by the Conservative/Liberal Democrat Government.
Localisation means just that; the national coalition allowing decisions to be made locally. The decision to impose a council tax rise on the poorest residents in Uttlesford is entirely at the discretion of the Conservatives on Uttlesford District Council. The council does not need the money it raises from its poorest residents. This is demonstrated by the act of handing back a rebate/council tax reduction amounting to an even larger sum of money to all council tax payers in Uttlesford. The tax hike for the poorest was opposed by local Liberal Democrats. There is no coalition in Uttlesford for unnecessary and punitive Conservative decisions.
