Liberal Democrat Councillor for Stansted North on Uttlesford District Council and former Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group Learn more

This year’s annual constituency dinner was organised by Stansted Lib Dems at Elsenham village hall. Our guest was Julian Huppert (on left in photo with me), the new Lib Dem MP for Cambridge.
Julian gave a rundown on what it was like being in coalition with the Conservatives since May. In his response to a question I asked about whether the coalition’s proposals would include an “Ofuni” to protect the interests of and ensure value for money for students, Julian said that he would be voting against the government proposals, though he acknowledged they are an improvement on Labour’s fees legacy. It seems likely that there will be votes for, against and abstentions amongst Lib Dem MPs; in coalition no party can’t have all its own way.
A three course meal was served by local caterers Small But Perfect. This was excellent. I particularly liked the brandy snap fruit basket for pud!
