Appeal dismissed at 14 Cambridge Road: Good news for Stansted!

by Alan Dean on 21 October, 2014

The planning appeal to cram 14 houses behind the Co-op and Tesco at 14 Cambridge Road, Stansted has been DISMISSED. That is excellent news and vindication for those who refused to accept official planning advice.

Read the inspector’s decision notice.

Stansted’s Neighbourhood Plan work can now get underway to come up with proposals for this site and neighbouring ones.

  1. Keith says:

I proposed the refusal of the Cambridge Road application and Janice Loughlin seconded the proposal.

Consequently she and I were mandated to represent the council at the appeal hearing. I am delighted that yet again we proved to be a winning team,as was the case with Bentfield Green last year (though the bulk of the credit there must go to the residents group)

This is not the first time I have been involved in a successful appeal where we have defended a decision to refuse despite a recommendation for approval from officers. This is not meant as criticism, merely acknowledgement that our decisions as councillors have to take into consideration elements that officers might not.

And despite my proven record of success, Rolfe seeks to have me removed from the planning committee on political grounds. It would appear that confidence in such an individual might be questioned, I shall certainly explore the possibility.

  2. Alan Dean says:

Why Howard Rolfe walked into a trap of pettiness by removing Keith Mackman from the planning committee tonight when Keith will be back on that committee by November 11th, with no meeting by then, is astonishing. A double whammy which became a triple when David Watson resigned the Tory whip in protest. Deficit of political nous.

  3. Gavin Painter says:

Now make it into a car so that the parking is better we need a bigger car park crafton green is too small ?

  4. Keith says:

The Cambridge Road site certainly will not become a car park.

Ideally it will return to being employment land but the potential for mixed use has to be considered.

Ideally I would have liked to have seen the health centre on that site, with plenty of on-site parking.

One would hope that after 3 rebuttals, the current bunch trying to cram too many houses onto the site will take a hike.
